They’re lovely, and ridged.
Been a busy week here at the Scalzi Compound — busy but good. Hope your own week has been a good one, too.

Lovely photo – thank you.
I am happy that you had a good week. It is nice that someone did. Hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend as well.
Stunningly beautiful!… Yes, it’s been a busy one, but that’s a good thing… Best to you and all at the Scalzi Compound, for a equally wonderful long weekend!
It’s a mackerel sky!
I first learned what those were called when I live in Rochester, NY, and had never seen one. I just couldn’t imagine looking at a real sky that looked like the photo. Now I live in Indiana, and they’re not that rare here, but I still get a kick out of them.
Nice pic. Wish my skyline looked like that today.
And “Today’s Clouds” sounds like a good name for a song title. If I come up with anything, I’ll send it your way.
Oh. Wow!
Any chance you could post a full size version that would allow us to download a little bit of Ohio for our desktop pictures? Would it be exceptionally greedy to ask you to autograph the photo as well?
SCT SC, probably at about 2000-2500′, with incoming AC (that’s the “mackerel sky”) at anywhere between 5500-8000′.
Good chance of snow incoming (or freezing rain, depending on the temperatures SFC-850MB).
oh, and yes, it’s pretty.
Great picture.
While bicycling home after work in Seattle, I saw a similar ridged sky at sunset. The ridges weren’t as uniform though. The clouds were in a layer with clear sky beneath them. When the sun sank below the clouds, the peaks turned a brilliant pink magenta and the valleys a bluish gray.
It’s one of the most spectacular things I’ve ever seen. This was long before cellphone cameras so I only have memories.
