I saw that it had leaked over the weekend but now it’s up on the Netflix YouTube account, so: Here you go. I think it looks pretty cool, myself.

  1. Schrodinger’s Author?

Get in the cardboard box, John! The cats are already there…and may or may not have opposable thumbs.

I got around to watching the first season a couple of weeks ago (when I realized it’s on Netflix and I have a subscription, duh). It felt like a years’ best SF/Fantasy short story collection, and I mean that in a good way. Loved the yoghurt and the three robots, Peter Hamilton’s story (Sonie’s Edge), Good Hunting (Ken Liu) and the witness. Looking forward to season 2.

Be nice to see more of this sort of thing, not constrained by run time limits and with many different animation styles.

  2. I recently re-read ‘Timeline by Michael Crichton and was struck by his explanation of how the time travel worked. Sounded a lot like Harry Wilson explaining space travel in OMW. If you can go this-and-thataway in space, why not in time?

So any way, I just apported to the future, checked the credits on LD&R V2 and found out that…

  3. So anyway, what odds are the bookies giving on ‘Scalzi wrote the Poop Droid’ ? Because I am tapping my 401-k and putting it all on ”of course he did!”

  4. I can’t wait. And I’m not watching a trailer haha.

The greatest thing about L,D,&R S1 was that I didn’t like all the episodes – yes, the greatest. Just like a Year’s Best anthology as mentioned above, they aren’t all for me and that’s great. Something for everyone.

  6. Hmm. Unlike the first anthology, there’s nothing that I immediately recognize from the bits in the trailer, but if they did anywhere near as good a job of picking stories (and turning them into toons) as they did the first time, that just means I get exposed to NEW awesome stuff, so that’s a win.

  7. Drat, not Christmas in July

    All Through the House

    Animation Company: Blink Industries
Based on a story by: Joachim Heijndermans

Still Christmas in July would be awesome

  8. Spoiler

    not really

    Automated Customer Service
    (10 minutes)
Directed by Meat Dept (Kevin Dan Ver Meiren, David Nicolas, Laurent Nicolas)
    Animation Company: Atoll Studio
Based on a story by: John Scalzi

  9. Dear Mr. John Scalzi, do you have the will publishing your story Automated Customer Service on our magazine Science Fiction World? Thank you!

  10. I’m disappointed there are no female authors included. Seriously, it’s 2021.

While I liked a lot of the episodes in the first volume, I was also put off by how heavily male gaze-y much of it was. So I’m hoping Volume 2 is better in that respect.

All that said, I’m looking forward to “Automated Customer Service.” And I know people with new puppies who could really use a poop robot.
